Increasing opportunity. Supporting students.
The Carroll and Milton Petrie Foundation aims to increase economic opportunity by strengthening college and career pathways for low-income New Yorkers. The Foundation supports innovative programs and practices that:
Improve readiness for and connection to higher education
Enable students to thrive and succeed in college
Increase access to high potential careers upon graduation
In keeping with Mr. Petrie’s habit of supporting New Yorkers in times of need, the Foundation has established Petrie Student Emergency Grant Funds at colleges throughout the city. Through this program, students can receive funds to help cope with unexpected crises, such as sudden job loss or eviction. By responding to emergencies, these grants enable more students to continue their studies and reach their career goals.
The Foundation has a rich history of encouraging university and city officials to adopt policies that support low-income students. We work with researchers, advocates and partners to share evidence and promote best practices throughout the system.
